We're having a serious possession audit, we have been decluttering, with gusto!
I can find it seriously depressing to go through stuff that, at one point in my life I wanted or liked. So I make myself ask these questions
Do I love it?
Do I use it?
Do I have another one that better fits the bill?
Keeping
3 handmade baby blankets belonging to the Small
one from each Mum, Granny and Great Aunt M
Putting in the charity bag
5 other handmade baby blankets
3 shop bought baby blankets and 5 cot sheets.
Keeping
A lovely old wicker shopping basket.
Ripping out
The half-knitted jumper that had been in it for 2 years
Going through a selection of old clothes of mine, I found tops with small tears, skirts that might have fitted me in days (long) gone by and I even found 2 pairs of trousers with giant holes in the ass.
Why have I held on to all this for so long?
I ended up with 3 pairs of trousers and 6 tops.
Knowing that we had been living with what would fit in a suitcase actually made it a lot easier.
Worth keeping
A selection of outfits for Small
I picked ones that fit the season and her likely pursuits.
Getting passes on
2 party dresses, 3 skirts, 12 t-shirts, 20 pairs of underwear
If more storage boxes is the answer,
you have too much stuff.
We have now instigated a 'one in, one out' policy on all new belongings.
Just found your site - like this lots. I've been decluttering for a week or so now and have disposed of several boxes of stuff. All to good homes. I also put a box labelled 'free' on the footpath. Its amazing how much has gone from it and every item that goes is one less I have to take to the second hand outfits. It was hats today. How we managed to collect so many between the 4 of us I don't know. I'm sure they breed in there :)

That is a great idea Viv! We offer a lot on our local freecycle group too, it is so good to know that our old junk is going to someone who will appreciate it.
